Ahmedabad rig tender

Vol 15, PW 1 (14 Jul 11) News in Brief

Ten companies are in the race to win an ONGC tender to hire a 1000-hp rig to drill ‘horizontal’ wells at the Ahmedabad asset.

PETROWATCH learns Shiv Vani and John Energy were among those to buy documents for the e-tender floated on May 25 on ONGC’s website. ONGC closed the tender at 2pm on July 14 and opened technical bids the same day.

ONGC is expected to award this contract promptly, as it wants the selected contractor to mobilise the rig by September 15 to begin a three-year contract. “We want to use the rig only to drill horizontal wells,” says an ONGC source.

In the first year of the contract, he adds, ONGC wants the rig to drill five horizontal wells in line with its earlier announced plans to drill at least 10 more horizontal wells to boost production from the Ahmedabad asset. In June, ONGC completed drilling horizontal well Ahmedabad #135 at the Ramol oilfield in Ahmedabad using a John Energy rig.

Oil flow has begun at this well, which is being tested.
