Eni's first Rajasthan well in February

Vol 12, PW 15 (18 Dec 08) News in Brief

Italian explorer Eni is expected to spud its first exploration well at onland NELP-V block RJ-ONN-2003/1 in Rajasthan in February next year.

Eni (34% and operator) last month told partners ONGC (36%) and Cairn India (30%) it needed a six-month extension from the DGH to its Phase-I exploration programme because the state government has not granted land rights. It is unclear if the DGH extension has been granted, but the land problem is solved.

“Rajasthan authorities are preparing the land papers (10,000-sq feet) and they will be signed in one or two days,â€‌ reports a source. Eni is now ready to sign a contract with John Energy to hire a 2000-hp rig ahead of its first well, which will be drilled to TD of 2700 metres.

If a discovery is made, Eni will need three months to test the well and another three months to plan three optional wells committed in Phase-I. Eni, ONGC and Cairn India won the 1335-sq km block in NELP-V and signed a PSC on September 23, 2005.
