More bad luck for Essar Wildcat

Vol 12, PW 15 (18 Dec 08) News in Brief

Essar Oilfields semi submersible rig Essar Wildcat is having another run of bad luck.

When the rig was on location offshore eastern India last month for GSPC at KG-OSN-2001/3, an anchor handling boat dashed against a column and put her out of action. Essar Wildcat was towed to Vizag port where she is now being repaired.

An industry source attributes the mishap to “bad seamanshipâ€‌ on the part of crew aboard the anchor handling boat. Wildcat had just returned from nearly four months in Singapore where she was fitted with a new $25m Blow Out Preventor to replace one that sprung a leak while drilling well KG#19 for GSPC.

Before the rig left for Singapore in July, another anchor handling boat dashed against Wildcat but “the damage then was not as severe as this time,â€‌ says a source. Contacted by this report, Essar confirms that, “The rig met with a minor incident and has been sent for repairs and will return back to location (well KG#19) sometime this week.
