Repair work on Perro Negro 3

Vol 11, PW 23 (03 Apr 08) News in Brief

Hindustan Shipyard - also known as Vizag Shipyard - has begun repair work on the Perro Negro 3 jack-up, after three years drilling at GSPC discovery block KG-OSN-2001/3.

“GSPC must be relieved the rig is not going out of the country,â€‌ we hear. “This means she can resume work early.

â€‌ Owned and operated by Saipem, Perro Negro 3 is likely to be operational at discovery block KG-OSN-2001/3 again by May. “There are no major repairs,â€‌ adds a source, “except on one of the legs, which became stuck.

â€‌ Contacted by PETROWATCH, a Hindustan Shipyard spokesperson said the yard is carrying out routine repair and maintenance on the rig. “It is like a car that needs servicing after you drive it for a while,â€‌ he says.

“We will carry out repairs on the leg base, piping and valves of the rig. The rig will be here with us for at least 50 to 60 days more.

â€‌ Perro Negro 3 was the first rig hired by GSPC at KG-OSN-2001/3 and made the first discovery in well KG#8. It moved to Vizag around February 9.
