Gujarat wants 1m t/y more LNG from Petronet-LNG

Vol 9, PW 13 (06 Oct 05) News in Brief

Gujarat authorities have asked Petronet-LNG to supply an additional 1m t/y regassified LNG for Gujarat State Petroleum.

We understand this issue came up during discussions between Petronet-LNG and the Gujarat Maritime Board about the Dahej solid cargo port concession agreement. Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi told Petronet-LNG that GSPC could easily buy another 5m t/y LNG from Dahej.

My state has the appetite for another 5m t/y LNG, he reportedly told senior Petronet-LNG officials. In response Petronet-LNG pleaded helplessness, saying all present and future imports up to 7.5m t/y are already contracted to offtakers GAIL, IOC and BPCL.

Petronet-LNG said GSPC should approach GAIL for any additional supplies. We are told that Gujarat authorities will meet GAIL on 19th October to press for another 1m t/y.

Gujarat originally asked for 2m t/y LNG from Dahej but was given only 1m t/y.
