NELP-VII offers 57 blocks for auction

Vol 11, PW 16 (13 Dec 07) News in Brief

At last and in time for our final edition before the New Year! Oil minister Murli Deora today (Thursday, December 13) launched India’s seventh NELP licencing round at a press conference called at 3pm in the oil ministry in Delhi.

Deora said 57 blocks would be offered and that, in a break from tradition, the first roadshow would be held in Mumbai, India’s financial hub, on January 8. Roadshows would follow on January 24 and 25 in London and on January 28 and 29 in Houston.

On January 31 and February 1, the roadshow would move to Calgary. No dates have yet been fixed for Perth.

Deora said that of the 57 blocks on offer, 19 would be deepwater blocks, nine shallow water blocks and 29 would be onland. Surprisingly, two of the deepwater blocks will be in the Kerala Konkan Basin, which was widely expected not to figure in this round.

The other deepwater blocks are in the Krishna Godavari Basin, the Kutch Basin and offshore Mumbai. Bids should be sent in by April 11.
