Canada wants to help India secure its energy supplies

John McCallum, Canadian minister for National Revenue and Natural Resources, has told finance minister Palaniappan Chidambaram that Canada and India should establish a strategic partnership in the hunt for natural resources.

On 2nd November, Chidambaram wrote to oil minister Mani Shankar Aiyar telling him that McCallum made the suggestion during a meeting of the G-20 finance ministers and central bank governors on 15th October. Chidambaram said McCallum told him Canada has set up such a strategic partnership with China and would like to set up a similar partnership with India.
