It is being reported that 12 shipping liners have submitted bids for the Petronet LNG contract to ship 7.5m tonnes a year (t/y) to India.

Among the liners mentioned are: Mitsui of Japan; Hyundai, Samsung and Hanjing of South Korea; Malaysian International Shipping Company; Louis Dreyfus of France; Osprey from the US and a Belgian liner. "If this was a lottery I would put my bets on one of the first two winning it," an observer tells Petrowatch.

Government sources indicate that none of the liners have indicated their choice of Indian joint venture partner. The deadline for submitting the pre-qualification bids expired on 7th March.
