ONGC has swiftly followed up on its February announcement of an unprecedented number of promotions by confirming 29 senior-level appointments.

Among those celebrating after a March 7 meeting by ONGC's powerful executive committee chaired by chairman Shashi Shanker is OVL business development head Alok Kumar Gupta. Next month (April) Gupta moves to become head of the fledgling Assam Arakan Frontier Basin (AAFB) exploratory asset at Silchar, carved out from a forward base in March 2017.

"Gupta was supposed to become a sub-surface manager at the Assam asset (at Nazira)," we hear. "But that order was changed." Gupta replaces MC Das who retired on February 28.

Firoze Dotivala, a Parsi from Pune, will move from his position as Kutch and Saurashtra block manager in the Western Offshore Basin to become Assam and Assam Arakan basin manager, based at Jorhat. Dotivala was promoted to executive director in February.

"Dotivala is already familiar with the northeast," says a former colleague. "And he is an excellent manager!" Dotivala replaces Dr.

Harilal who moves to head the KDMIPE research institute at Dehradun in place of RK Shukla who becomes "chief labs" at Mumbai. Separately, Sanjay Chawla also moved in February from GGM at the Assam asset to Delhi as chief of the Joint Venture Operational Group - not included in the list of 29 appointments released in March.
