Like David beating a gang of Goliaths small Mehsana-based service provider Vishal Enterprises has defeated giants Schlumberger, Halliburton Offshore Services and Weatherford to win a Rs45cr ($6.8m) Oil India contract.

An Oil India source confirms it awarded the four-year contract for services needed in Assam to Vishal on August 1. "We expect to start activities by the last quarter of 2016," he says.

A Vishal source also confirmed the development. Included in the contract is the provision of three sets of well servicing units - a Coiled Tubing Unit, a Nitrogen Pumping Unit and a Fluid Pumping Unit - with heating facilities and other related accessories.

There is an option to extend the contract by yet another two years. Other companies who were in the race include Assam Air Products, Mumbai-based SES Energy Services India, Dubai-based National Petroleum Services, Techno Canada, JayBee Energy and Abu Dhabi-based AlMansoori Petroleum Services.

Vishal was set up in April 1999 and its current clients include ONGC and Cairn India.
