Gujarat Gas steals Gujarat Petronet staff

Vol 19, PW 26 (08 Sep 16) News in Brief

Gujarat Gas is ruthlessly poaching staff from its sister company Gujarat State Petronet after winning a record six geographical areas between May 27 and July 4 this year (2016): Anand (rural), Panchmahals, Dahod, Dahej-Vagra, Amreli and Ahmedabad (rural).

"Gujarat Petronet is already overstaffed and there is not much work there," says a Gujarat Petronet source. People sitting idle, but who have experience, are being sent across to Gujarat Gas, which is using them to manage its gas retail operations in areas outside Gujarat like Thane in North Maharashtra and the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

Also over the past few weeks, Gujarat Gas has hired 50 new engineers from other companies and graduates from the Pandit Deen Dayal Petroleum University, Nirma University and Baroda's MS University. "This recruitment is for our new geographical areas," says a Gujarat Gas source.

"We need a lot of people at different levels. But finding the right people is difficult." Gujarat Gas is offering jobs both on payroll and on contract.
