JN Singh becomes GSPC's first CMD

Vol 19, PW 25 (25 Aug 16) News in Brief

As predicted in our last edition JN Singh is now officially GSPC's first chairman and managing director.

This report learns the new state government in power since August 7 has confirmed that Singh will continue as MD of GSPC for the foreseeable future. As a long-serving bureaucrat Singh had already been elevated to the rank of Gujarat chief secretary on July 30 after Ganga Ram Aloria retired.

As chief secretary you are automatically GSPC chairman. All key decisions at the company will now be taken by Singh.

Managing daily operations will be T. Natarajan, who took charge as GSPC's new joint managing director on August 1.

"This is good for GSPC," comments a Gandhinagar source. "The way Singh has conducted himself (since he took additional charge as MD in April 2016) proves he is the right man to make important decisions." Crucially Singh has good working relations with the important decision-makers in both Gandhinagar and Delhi.

"Unlike most IAS officers," we hear, "he doesn't boss people around." At GSPC Singh is praised for introducing a healthy dose of financial discipline.
