Mercator drills 3rd well at CB-ONN-2005/9

Vol 19, PW 6 (19 Nov 15) News in Brief

Mercator Petroleum is confident it can complete its third exploration well Jyoti-3 at CB-ONN-2005/9 by end-December 2015.

John Energy’s 1100-hp rig John-19 spud well Jyoti-3 on November 7 around 1-km from its second discovery well Jyoti-2. Mercator hired the John rig on October 14 following a tender issued on September 11.

Mercator wants to drill four wells up to 3500 metres TD and expects each well will take around 45 days to complete in a six-month campaign. Mercator is hoping its lucky streak at the block will continue.

Well Jyoti-1 drilled to 2936 metres was announced as an oil discovery on June 2, 2015. This was followed by an announcement on August 19 that well Jyoti-2 drilled to 2806 metres was also an oil discovery.

One driller speculates Mercator might hire a separate workover rig to test the four planned exploration wells to save costs. In total the company has environment ministry clearance to drill 15 wells: eight exploration, and seven appraisal.
