Dahej begins operations at full 5m t/y capacity

Vol 8, PW 26 (06 Apr 05) News in Brief

Petronet-LNGs import terminal at Dahej began operating at its full installed capacity of 5m t/y on 15th March.

When commissioned, Dahej began operations at 2.5m t/y and was scheduled to receive the balance 2.5m t/y LNG from 1st April this year. All the additional LNG has been committed for sale, mainly to fertiliser companies outside Gujarat.

Separately, expect a months delay in sending the Request for Proposal documents to contractors interested in the contract to double Dahej capacity to 10m t/y. The original plan was to send the documents by the end of March but this has now been postponed to the end of April.

However, Petronet-LNG is not worried. In such a big project, delays of a month or so are not a major issue, says a source.

One of the main reasons for the delay is the extra time requested by contractors. Under the expansion, Dahej will have two more LNG storage tanks and two more LNG tankers.
