Aiyar tells glass manufacturers to buy R-LNG

If you cant buy cheap subsidised gas, then start buying expensive regassified LNG! Thats the unmistakable message from none other than oil minister Mani Shankar Aiyar.

On 17th May, Aiyar donned the mantle of LNG salesman with a letter to Firozabad-based gas manufacturer Hind Glass Industries in Uttar Pradesh telling it to approach GAIL to buy R-LNG at market-determined prices because APM (Administered Pricing Mechanism) gas in the Agra-Firozabad region is in short supply. On 10th March, Hind wrote to Aiyar asking him to double its supply of gas from 15,000 cm/d to 30,000 cm/d.

Aiyar replied that this is not possible because GAIL had informed him that the Gas Linkage Committee allocation for this region is only 1.1m cm/d and that it does not have any excess quantity of APM gas. Days earlier, Aiyar had given a similar response to another Firozabad-based gas supplier: Empire Glass Industries.
