Reliance wants Sohagpur rigs

Vol 13, PW 24 (20 May 10) News in Brief

Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance wants rigs for its ongoing development programme at the Sohagpur East and West CBM blocks in Madhya Pradesh.

PETROWATCH learns Reliance is set to hire a water-well drilling rig and a conventional CBM rig to drill 30 surface/production holes in line with its Phase-I development programme at both blocks. “Reliance will issue the tender soon,” confirms a company source, “but only to drilling contractors registered with it.

” He explains Reliance will first drill 30 surface holes using the cheaper water well drilling rig to save costs, later converting them to production holes with the CBM rig. “Each hole will be drilled to between 800 and 1200 metres, taking 12 to 15 days to complete,” he says.

Rigs must be deployed by October. Reliance will drill over 300 wells under its Sohagpur development plan, approved in 2007 by the DGH.

Sohagpur East is learnt to hold 1.69-tcf of CBM while Sohagpur West holds 1.96-tcf – figures endorsed by the DGH.
