Change of guard at ONGC EXCOM

Vol 12, PW 16 (15 Jan 09) News in Brief

Sadanand Thakur said after taking charge in late August last year that he planned to streamline paperwork and hire more staff at ONGC’s Exploration Contract Monitoring Group, or EXCOM – ONGC’s interface with foreign companies with whom it has JVs.

But PETROWATCH learns Thakur has already moved to the hills of Dehra Dun to GEOPIC, an ONGC seismic data processing and interpretation centre, where he heads INTEG, the interpretation group at GEOPIC. “All seismic acquired by ONGC is brought to INTEG for interpretation,â€‌ we are told.

Thakur, 58, is well known from his role as the key interface at the DGH with Indian and foreign oil companies during the recently concluded NELP-VII licensing round. Another source says it is no surprise Thakur left the limelight for Dehra Dun.

“He wants to build a house there and settle with his family after he retires next year.â€‌ His replacement at EXCOM, sources say, is likely to be D.

Purkayastha, a DGM in the department.
