GSPC discovers oil at CB-ONN-2003/2

Vol 12, PW 13 (13 Nov 08) News in Brief

Gujarat State Petroleum has made a â€کsignificant’ oil discovery at the Ankleshwar-21 well near TD of 1400 metres at its 448-sq km Cambay Basin onshore block CB-ONN-2003/2.

“This is the first discovery from any block awarded in NELP-V,â€‌ reports a source. GSPC struck oil on November 9 between 1400 and 1420 metres depth at the Ankleshwar geological formation and recorded flow rates close to 200 b/d of 40-degree API crude.

DGH officials visited the site two days later to witness testing, which continues. “GSPC might prolong testing,â€‌ adds a source, citing a shortage of storage tanks for crude oil.

Ankleshwar-21 is the fifth test well drilled by GSPC at the block and one of three that has been â€کfully’ tested. GSPC (50% and operator) won CB-ONN-2003/2 in the fifth NELP licensing round with Canada-based GeoGlobal Resources (10%), Delhi-based Jubilant Oil and Gas (20%) and GAIL (20%).

A PSC for the block was signed on September 23, 2005.
