Canoro Resources is preparing an approach road to the site of its fifth well at pre-NELP exploration block AA-ON/7, which straddles the border between Assam and Nagaland.

PETROWATCH learns the Canadian explorer is planning to move its 1500-hp Weatherford rig No.814 from the Amguri field to the site of the Victo-1 â€کdeep sub-thrust’ well planned for early 2009 and which will be drilled to TD of around 4500 metres.

“This will be our first well in Nagaland,â€‌ Canoro tells us. “It’s in the disputed border area with Assam.

If there’s a discovery there will be a question over whether royalties go to Assam or Nagaland.â€‌ So far Canoro has drilled four dry holes at AA-ON/7, of which 770-sq km falls in Assam and 218-sq km is in Nagaland.

Last month the company asked the DGH to split the PSC in two: one for Assam and one for Nagaland – a move designed to make the logistics of exploration easier. Canoro secured its Assam PEL in August 2001 and its Nagaland PEL in 2006.
