Still awaiting approval for MA plan

Vol 11, PW 23 (03 Apr 08) News in Brief

Reliance is no closer to getting oil ministry approval for its MA oilfield development plan than in August 2007 when it was submitted.

On March 18, Reliance made a presentation to the ministry on the project. In attendance was oil secretary MS Srinivasan with joint secretary exploration AK Jain, DGH boss VK Sibal and others.

“There were no fundamental queries from the ministry,â€‌ says a source. “It was meant to update them on the project.

Clarifications were sought on certain aspects of the development plan and these were given during the presentation.â€‌ Originally scheduled for January, the presentation was postponed several times as ministry officials were busy overseas promoting NELP-VII.

This week Jain and others return to work after concluding the NELP-VII roadshows. Reliance expects to begin producing 40,000 b/d from June this year, over a five-year period and hopes the ministry will have approved the development plan before production starts.
