Balyan wins ONGC director extension

AK Balyan will soon hold the distinction of being the second longest serving human resources director at ONGC: eight years.

PETROWATCH learns Balyan was interviewed by the PESB on March 5. “He (Balyan) reached at 11.30am,â€‌ reports a source.

“No other candidate was called.â€‌ Balyan’s job would normally have ended on August 22 this year.

“His tenure has been extended,â€‌ we hear. “He can stay till July 31, 2011.

â€‌ PESB members NK Singh and Naresh Narad, oil secretary MS Srinivasan and ONGC chairman RS Sharma interviewed Balyan. Born on July 2, 1951, Balyan joined ONGC in 1976.

He graduated from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi and received a doctorate in chemistry from the Technische Hochshule fur Chemie at Merseburg in Germany. Former ONGC director Jauhari Lal was the company’s longest serving HR director when he retired on May 30, 2003 after 11 years in the job.

Balyan became director HR on August 23, 2003.
