GeoEnpro, a joint venture between Geopetrol of France and Jubilant of India, is planning to drill 14 development wells at the 12-sq km Kharsang oilfield in Assam beginning next year to triple production from the present rate of 1250 b/d.

PETROWATCH learns GeoEnpro has shortlisted several drilling contractors for the job and that negotiations to hire a rig are at the final stage. After the rig is on site, GeoEnpro expects to drill on average one well per month.

“Assuming we drill one well per month,â€‌ says a source, “we can complete this campaign in 14 months.â€‌ GeoEnpro tells us that of these 14 wells, seven will be â€کinfill’ wells, while the remaining seven will be â€کstep out’ wells drilled 100 metres or so from the existing producing wells.

First results by way of increased production are likely to emerge by end-2008. In addition to these 14 wells, GeoEnpro is also planning workovers at 12 existing wells beginning December this year in a campaign expected to last four months.
