Santos 2D survey delay to December

Vol 11, PW 13 (01 Nov 07) News in Brief

Australian explorer Santos Petroleum has put back till mid-December the start date of its 17,300-km 2D survey of two ultra deepwater blocks in the Bay of Bengal.

“There was a bit of delay to do with CGG getting the boat in and out of dry dock that dictated the slight change in schedule,â€‌ we hear. “But everything’s now set-up to go and all the approvals are in place.

â€‌ In June this year Santos signed a $15m contract with CGG for the CGG Duke seismic boat for a 2D seismic (and gravity/magnetic data) survey - expected to take anything between three to six months – beginning after monsoon rains in October or November this year across NEC-DWN-2004/1 and NEC-DWN-2004/2. “CGG is very confident that it can still acquire the whole survey within the season’s weather window,â€‌ we hear.

Santos has identified South Asia as a focus area and last month paid $50m cash to acquire Cairn Energy Bangladesh Ltd, which holds 37.5% of the producing Sangu gasfield.
