NTPC chairman I/V on October 10

Vol 11, PW 10 (20 Sep 07) News in Brief

By next month we should know who will be the new NTPC chairman.

PETROWATCH learns interviews for CMD of NTPC will be held on October 10 at the PESB office in Delhi. “Interested candidates have already started lobbying with their political masters and bureaucrats,â€‌ we hear.

On September 10, the PESB prepared a final list of 11 candidates (see below). Speculation suggests NTPC’s outgoing chairman Thyagrajan Sankarlingam is lobbying for an extension.

As we go to press, Sankarlingam was not available for comment, as he will be back from Moscow only on September 22. “Sankarlingam met (power minister) Sushil Kumar Shinde to ask for an extension,â€‌ reports one insider.

Says another source: “Sankarlingam has not approached bureaucrats at the power ministry or the PESB. He is trying with the minister directly.

â€‌ Sankarlingam became CMD of NTPC on April 1, 2006 and he retires on May 1 next year.
