Eleven compete for three-rig ONGC contract

Vol 11, PW 5 (12 Jul 07) News in Brief

Eleven drillers are competing for an ONGC tender for three jack-up rigs.

Sale of the tender documents closed on April 19th, with the bid submission deadline set for July 17th. Companies that bought the tender documents are: Global SantaFe, Pride International, Transocean, Great Offshore, Jindal Drilling, Nabor Drilling, Greatship, Aban Loyd, Amership, Mercator and ABG Shipping.

ONGC wants â€کstandard’ jack-up rigs that can operate in 300-feet water depths but. After a pre-bid conference in April, it allowed bidders to offer even â€کnew-build’ rigs.

ONGC is offering a three-year contract for each rig and wants the winner to mobilise in the western offshore by November 1st next year. Still unclear is the favourite to win the contract but the general feeling is that new companies like Great Offshore, Greatship, Nabor Drilling, Amership, Mercator and ABG Shipping will bid aggressively to win.

Surprise absentees are Jagson Drilling, Essar Oil and KCA Deutag.
