Deep Driller-1 to spud GSPC well by 10th May

Vol 10, PW 26 (03 May 07) News in Brief

Premium Drilling-managed jack-up Deep Driller-1 is expected to spud her first well for GSPC by 10th May on eastern offshore shallow-water block KG-OSN-2001/3.

This report learns that the rig is already in Indian waters awaiting security and other clearances before proceeding to the drilling location. “If the clearances come in early, the first well can be spud on 7th May,â€‌ says an industry source.

GSPC has yet to choose between KG#22 and PT#2 as the first well for Deep Driller-1. KG#22 lies in about 110 metres water depth and will be drilled to more than 5000 metres depth while PT#2 lines in the northern Graben area of the block and is a completely different prospect.

“With PT#2 the idea is to trace northwards the channel sands that come down to the locations of the already drilled wells,â€‌ we are told. If PT#2 is chosen as the location, the well will be drilled to around 4400 metres.

Deep Driller-1 is a brand new rig and the GSPC contract will be her second assignment.
