An Indian consortium led by Gujarat State Petroleum has bid for four exploration onland blocks in Yemen, increasingly a destination of choice for Indian companies looking for acreage in the Middle East.

PETROWATCH learns the GSPC-led consortium of Hyderabad-based Alkor Petroo and Delhi-based Jubilant Enpro has bid for blocks 19, 28, 57 and 84. Each of these blocks is large, says a source.

They range from 7000-sq km to 12,000-sq km in size. Under offer by Yemen authorities are 14 blocks in the countrys present licensing round.

GSPC and its partners make up one of 34 companies and consortia pre-qualified by Yemen authorities for blocks in this round. GSPC submitted bids on behalf of the consortium by the bid deadline of 26th November and we are told Yemen authorities expect to announce the winners on or around 25th December.

We have put in attractive bids, says a consortium source. We hope to win all four blocks.
