Vol 3, PW 1 (03 Feb 99) News in Brief

Total of France and the Tata Electric Company (TEC) have won approval from Indias Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) to set up an LNG terminal at Trombay in Maharashtra.

TEC filed the application on 11 January 1999 and it was approved on 23 January. The proposal envisages a joint venture between Total and TEC for a 3m tonnes a year (t/y) LNG import terminal to feed an adjacent 1,350 MW gas based power plant belonging to TEC.

Surplus gas will be fed to other users in Maharashtra, a state which is likely to have surplus power once the 2,144 MW Enron project at Dabhol and the 1,082 MW Bhadrawati project - promoted by Ispat, Electricite De France and Alstom - come on stream.
