A new آ‘gas gridآ’ for Gujarat

The Gujarat state government has appointed Bechtel to undertake a feasibility study on the construction of a new gas pipeline network.

Atanu Chakravarty of the Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board (GIDB) said financial modelling for the project will be carried out by Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India (ICICI). Chakravarty adds that the state government also plans to introduce a Gas Act in the next session of the Gujarat legislative assembly to regulate the transmission and distribution of future gas supplies in Gujarat.

Chakravarty said the state government will invite private companies to take 40% equity in the project. The move come as Gujarat prepares for the wholesale import of LNG at four locations on its coast: Pipavav, Dahej, Hazira and Maroli.
