Government victory in war against adulteration

Oil minister Ram Naik has released evidence indicating progress in a government campaign against widespread adulteration of petrol and diesel with cheaper fuels.

"We have information that petrol consumption has shown an upward trend since we started action against adulteration in November 1999," said Naik, "The growth of petrol sales from November 1999 to June 2000 has been more than 10% of the corresponding period (last year). Our efforts to curb adulteration since October-November 1999 have contributed to this increase."
