Negative publicity surrounding a protracted legal battle between Niko Resources and Gujarat State Petroleum has had a damaging impact in Canada.

A source with the Alberta government delegation to Petrotech said six Canadian companies initially wanted to exhibit at Petrotech but that five decided to pull out at the last minute, citing Niko's legal battle with Gujarat Petroleum over ownership of a gas pipeline. "There's a perception that the Indian government is nationalising the assets of a Canadian company," he said, "This dispute has had repercussions way beyond our exploration sector."
