Petrowatch learns that Tamil Nadu has no intention of selecting a Chairman for the State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC) before local elections.

A source tells this report that installing a SERC Chairman in an election year would be "disastrous" for the sitting local government. One of the principle duties of any future SERC Chairman is to levy electricity charges to reluctant farmers.

"That would be disastrous in an election year," reports a source, "Chief Minister Karunanidhi and the state Electricity Minister Arcot Veeraswamy know this better than most." Offers to fill the post of SERC chairman were firstreleased on March 17th last year.
