Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) marketing director ON Marwah confirms that IOC is in talks with Petronas of Malaysia to set up a new 600,000 tonne per year (t/y) LPG import facility at Ennore.

"Although the installed capacity is 600,000 tonnes, it will be able to handle 1m tonnes of LPG," Marwah tells the Business Standard newspaper in an interview published 14th February, "The demand for LPG is tremendous in India and will pick up once LPG is made free." Marwah adds that a detailed feasibility study is underway. Other IOC collaborations with Petronas include an LPG import terminal at Haldia, which should be commissioned by March 2001, and a petrochemical complex at Panipat in Punjab.

The two companies also bid (unsuccessfully) for an exploration block under NELP.
