Seismic survey of Andaman acreage almost over

Vol 5, PW 14 (29 Aug 01) News in Brief

Deepwater seismic acquisition is continuing east of the Andaman Nicobar group of islands, as the DGH prepares to offer acreage in the next round of NELP.

Water depths east of the islands reach a maximum of 1,400 metres, the deepest point being about 150-200 kilometres from the coastline. On the western side (Bay of Bengal) the maximum depth is about 2,000 metres - about 180-200 kilometres from the shoreline.

DGH sources tell PETROWATCH the eastern portion has several submerged islands and the fall in depth is gradual, as several islands have piled up under the Indian sub-continental shelf, while the western side has a steep fall.
