GAIL approves Snamprogetti for sub-sea gas pipeline

Vol 5, PW 15 (12 Sep 01) News in Brief

After initial hostility GAIL has agreed to allow Snamprogetti Saipem to carry out a feasibility study for the sub-sea Iran to India gas pipeline.

But on one condition: that National Iranian Oil Company, who appointed Snamprogetti, without consulting GAIL, appoints "a reputed international company as clients' advisor to oversee the work of the consultant (Snamprogetti), examine the deliverables and accordingly advice the clients (GAIL and NIOC) for further necessary action." GAIL suggests DNV, Intee Corporation of The Netherlands and J.P Kenny of the US as potential advisers who "could provide the expertise in deepwater pipeline technology."
