TotalFinaElf LPG project waits for clearance

Vol 5, PW 23 (16 Jan 02) News in Brief

'South Asia LPG' - a TotalFinaElf joint venture with Hindustan Petroleum to construct an underground LPG storage facility off Visakhapatnam harbour on the east coast - must overcome two hurdles before construction begins.

"A public hearing for the project is set to take place soon," a source tells PETROWATCH. "After that we need ministry of surface transport clearance.

All other clearances have been received." The facility - located near 'Dolphin Nose' hill - promises three caverns 150 metres underground to store 60,000 tonnes of LPG for eastern and southern India. Hindustan Petroleum and TotalFina hold equal stakes in 'South Asia LPG'.
