TAKE A CUE from British Gas on how to win friends and influence people in cricket-crazy India.

BG is handing out invitations for an India-England cricket match in New Delhi later this week (31st January). India country manager Nigel Shaw has sent letters to a 'chosen few' inviting them to the event.

"On behalf of British Gas, it gives me immense pleasure to invite you for the 5th One Day International Cricket Match to be held between India and England at the Feroze Shah Kotla Grounds in New Delhi," writes Shaw. Security for British players is a top issue after Britain joined America's anti-Taliban coalition, so invitees are reminded that, "on account of stringent security concerns, you are requested to confirm your acceptance at the earliest to prepare the required identity cards and entry badges.

I am also attaching a small note on basic do's and donts that will be useful and will avoid security hardships at the venue." Invitees must be seated at the venue "positively by 07.30 hrs". Worried about missing breakfast in Delhi's biting January cold Don't worry! Breakfast and lunch are on the house, courtesy BG.

But there's a catch. BG has only 30 seats and is handing out only one pass per invitee.

So forget the thought of taking your spouse or friend. Some invitees wanted to know if they could bring another person along.
