ONGC gives BJ contract for Samudra Nidhi

Vol 9, PW 26 (20 Apr 06) News in Brief

BJ Services has won an ONGC operations and maintenance contract for the offshore stimulation vessel Samudra Nidhi.

PETROWATCH learns ONGC issued the Letter of Intent (LoI) to BJ Services on 31st March after the service contractor submitted a bid of Rs17cr ($3.8m) for a one-year contract. BJ Services must assume charge of the stimulation vessel before 30th April from previous contractor Dewanchand Ramsaran, who ONGC has sent on holiday because of unhappiness with its performance.

Under the LoI, ONGC is hiring BJ Services for a year with an extension of six months. ONGC issued a limited tender on 17th January to BJ Services, Schlumberger, Halliburton and Baker Hughes.

All except Baker Hughes collected the tender documents and only BJ Services showed any interest and quoted Rs17cr ($3.8m). ONGC held a pre-bid conference in Mumbai on 23rd January and the tender closed on 27th January.
