Five companies are in the race to win the job of port consultant to NTPC for its 2m t/y LNG in Kerala.

"We are in discussions with various companies and will appoint the consultant by the end of this month," a source tells this report. When appointed the port consultant must prepare a feasibility report within four months on whether Kochi or Kayamkulam is a better port in which to locate a LNG terminal.

When the consultant submits the report, NTPC will invite bids for LNG import. NTPC has also received bids for the job of gas consultant for its LNG requirement.

"These bids will be opened in the middle of this month and the consultancy will be awarded by the end of next month." NTPC wants LNG for its Kayamkulam power plant from 2008.
