G&G + wells review at Oil India

Vol 27, PW 20 (03 Oct 24) News in Brief

Oil India is scouting for consultants to review in-house Geological and Geophysical (G&G) studies and evaluate wells drilled across its nomination, NELP, DSF and OALP blocks.

On September 27 (2024), Oil India floated a tender with an October 18 (2024) bid deadline. In its nine-page Scope of Work, Oil India says it will hire a third-party consultant for two years on a retainer and on-call basis.

"Oil India is also undertaking an evaluation of potential exploration blocks as well as farm-in opportunities in other basins of the country to expand its domestic acreage portfolio," says the tender. Based on the number of in-house G&G studies carried out in the last few years, approximately 30-35 location proposal notes detailing 70-80 drilling locations are likely to be generated for review by the consultant every year.

Around eight to ten exploratory wells are expected to be drilled in frontier areas yearly. "It is always better to have your work reviewed by experts," says an Oil India source.

He believes that whoever is selected will be vital in helping Oil India with its exploration and appraisal work. "In-house studies, wireline logs, and post-drill analysis reports of drilled wells will be made available for review by the consultant," adds the tender.

Oil India wants the consultant(s) to review each note or report in no more than five working days, possibly more at its discretion. No more than six visits a year will be permitted each year to Oil India's work centres in Delhi and Guwahati to review the location proposal notes and other G&G reports.

Oil India is operator at 58 blocks covering more than 58,000-sq km across seven basins.
