Gas for Kailash from ONGC Padra

Vol 27, PW 16 (08 Aug 24) News in Brief

Ahmedabad-based tiles and ceramics producer Kailash Energy Solutions wants to lay two separate dedicated gas pipelines to evacuate gas from ONGC's Padra field in the Cambay basin.

Kailash won 9000 cm/d of gas in an ONGC e-auction, where it was the sole bidder. On July 31 (2024), the PNGRB issued a public notice inviting views and comments by August 15 (2024) regarding Kailash's proposal to lay two dedicated pipelines.

"The PNGRB seeks the general public's comments to ascertain whether, instead of dedicated pipelines, the public interest would be better served if a gas pipeline is laid, built, operated or expanded," says the PNGRB notice. "Comments/ views, if any, may be submitted within 15 days of this notice."

In its May 5 (2024) application to the PNGRB, Kailash said it wants to lay a 125mm outer diameter 4.4-km pipeline connecting the Padra-149 well to its factory at Amla in Vadodara. This proposed pipeline will evacuate 5500 cm/d.

Kailash also wants permission to lay a 125-mm outer diameter 0.56-km dedicated pipeline connecting the Padra-93 well to the factory, carrying 3500 cm/d. Kailash adds: "We want to assure the PNGRB that the dedicated pipeline asset shall be laid complying with technical and safety norms and shall be used for the said purpose only, and no resale activity shall be carried out."

ONGC gave Kailash a May 23 (2024) deadline to begin supplies from the two wells, but the PNGRB failed to issue its notice seeking comments in time. ONGC (100%) discovered the 176.15-sq km Padra field in 1977 and began production in 1979.

In April 2023, the average oil production was 3371 b/d (460 t/d). Padra has 94 flowing wells.
