Shahdol wells plan at ONGC

Vol 27, PW 13 (27 Jun 24) News in Brief

Shahdol district in Madhya Pradesh is on the map for CBM production.

But ONGC is hoping to also put it on the map for conventional oil and gas. This report learns that ONGC is preparing to begin a two-well drilling campaign at the OALP-VII block SR-ONHP-2021/1 in the South Rewa basin in Madhya Pradesh.

On June 14 (2024), ONGC awarded a contract to prepare a Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) and an environmental management plan to Chennai-based ABC Techno Labs. Under the Rs867,300 ($10,387) contract, ABC will prepare the necessary reports to secure environmental clearance.

ONGC invited offers on January 29 (2024) and received bids by February 19 (2024). South Rewa is a Category-III basin with prospective resources to be explored and discovered.

In the current programme, ONGC plans to drill well B-SR-A at co-ordinates 23°46’44.48892’’ N and 81°17’28.22352’’ E and well B-SR-B at 23°46’55.81776’’ N and 81°28’06.40992’’ E. A total of 900-lkm of 2D and 122.62-sq km of 3D has been acquired at the block, which the DGH believes holds an undiscovered resource potential of 63m tonnes in place.

One well SR-C has been drilled. ONGC signed the PSC on June 28 (2022) and received the PEL from the state government on December 19 (2022).

Reliance operates the Sohagpur West CBM block nearby. In the past the DGH has awarded only three other oil and gas blocks in the basin.

Reliance won block SR-OSN-97/1 in NELP-I, which it later relinquished. In NELP-VI, Hindustan Petroleum subsidiary Prize Petroleum won block SR-ONN-2004/1 and drilled two wells.

In NELP-VII, Deep Energy won the third block SR-ONN-2005/1.
