DS Geo wins ONGC 3D contract

Faridabad-based DS Geo-Services has won an ONGC seismic acquisition contract in south Gujarat.

On March 14 (2024), DS won ONGC's contract worth Rs88.49cr ($10.6m) to acquire 126-sq km 3D in the Ankleshwar-Sisodara-Motwan area in Bharuch district and another 77-sq km 3D in the Kim-Katpor area across Surat and Bharuch districts during the 2024-25 field season. On December 29 (2023), ONGC invited offers for this 16-month contract with a January 19 (2024) bid deadline when it received nine bids.

They came from Gurgaon-based Advent Oilfield Services, AGS, Delhi-based Rodinia OFS, Kolkata-based Agarwal Marketing & Services (Energy), Rajasthan-based JP Singhal, DS Geo Services, Hyderabad-based Lakshmi Engineering and Drilling, Assam-based Mahaabala Geo Services and Andhra Pradesh-based newcomer Vajra Prospectiuni. According to a source, ONGC rejected technical bids from JP Singhal, Vajra Prospectiuni, Mahaabala Geo-Services and Rodinia OFS.

ONGC opened the price bids of the remaining five bidders in mid-February 2024. DS bid lowest with Rs88.49cr ($10.6m); Lakshmi was close behind with Rs88.84cr ($10.7m); Agarwal came third with Rs89.8cr ($10.8m); AGS was fourth with Rs90.65cr ($10.9m) and Advent came last quoting Rs98.01cr ($11.8m).

DS must mobilise within 45 days. Incorporated in 2006, DS Geo Services has shot 1500-lkm 2D seismic data in Oil India's OALP-1 block RJ-ONHP-2017/9 in Rajasthan for Advent Oilfield; and 287.80-lkm 2D in Vedanta's OALP-1 Cambay onshore block CB-ONHP-2017/10.

Elsewhere, the company is executing a 28-month ONGC contract for shot hole drilling and seismic services in onshore wells in the KG-PG and Cauvery basins. With its bid, DS director Sanjay Kumar Atree submitted copies of the LoAs and work completion certificates from GTC Oilfield, Asian Energy, Advent and ONGC.
