12 apply to replace Mittal as dir. HR at ONGC

Whoever replaces Alka Mittal as ONGC director HR will have a challenging time trying to stamp out discrimination and promote more women.

Twelve company candidates think they have what it takes and have applied for the HR director position by the May 5 (2022) deadline. "So many eligible candidates have applied," says a source.

Among the prominent names is Vijay Raj, an executive director who has spent most of his three-decade career in ONGC's human resources department and with four years left to retire. "He would be an excellent choice," says a source.

"He has rich experience in human resources." Another name circulating in industry circles is Ashutosh Singh, an executive director and chief of employee relations, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Based in Delhi, Singh was earlier in the chairman's office under then-chairman Shashi Shanker. "Singh also has potential," adds our source.

"After spending time in the chairman's office, he has good contacts." Others who have applied from the HR team at ONGC are Shashi Rajan, a group general manager (GGM) based in Dehradun; Rajan Asthana, a GGM and chief of the human resources department (HRD); Rao Naved, a chief general manager in Rajahmundry; and Pranjal Duwarah, a GM based in Delhi.

Debashish Mukherjee, chief general manager corporate from the corporate communications team, has applied, as has Saket Gupta from the corporate affairs team. Captain IVS Dagur, chief general manager of security in Chennai, has also applied.

Others who have applied are Pramod Kumar, a CGM based in Mumbai; Rizwana Naqvi and RS Narayani. Alka Mittal retires on August 31 (2022).

She took charge as HR director on November 27 (2018) and additional charge as CMD on January 4 (2022), after former finance director Subhash Kumar, who held the additional CMD charge, retired on December 31 (2021). ONGC's last full-time chairman Shashi Shanker retired on March 31 (2021).
