Wanted: technical support for ONGC in Assam

Vol 24, PW 16 (01 Jul 21) Exploration & Production

ONGC is looking for service providers to provide technical assistance at its Assam and Assam Arakan basin assets.

On June 11 (2021), ONGC invited EoIs to identify service providers to partner with or technically assist it with its E&P portfolios in the Assam Shelf, Assam Arakan Fold Belt (AAFB), Schuppen Belt and North Bank areas covering more than 15,000-sq km, with a July 5 (2021) deadline for bids. Industry sources speculate that companies like Schlumberger or Halliburton might be interested.

"We want to get a better G&G understanding in these areas," an ONGC source tells us. "First, we study the area, and then we focus on raising production."

According to the tender document, there is significant potential yet to be realised in the Upper Assam Shelf North, which includes fields such as Lakwa, Lakhmani, Rudrasagar and Geleki; and Upper Assam Shelf South, which includes the Borholla, Suphayam, Dayalpur and Nambar fields. ONGC wants service providers to explore "stratigraphic plays for reservoir delineation and play extension" in both areas.

Whoever wins will be asked to deploy Forward Stratigraphic Modelling and 3D modelling techniques. Upper Assam Shelf North has 27 blocks: 24 nomination PMLs, one NELP block and two OALP blocks.

ONGC has drilled 509 wells in the proposed study area across 990-sq km and holds 13,207-lkm 2D and 1657-sq km 3D available to study. Upper Assam Shelf South has 19 blocks: 15 PMLs, three PELs and one NELP block.

ONGC has drilled 194 wells across 470-sq km and has 13,454-lkm 2D and 880-sq km 3D available to study.
