Vol 23, PW 11 (09 Apr 20) News in Brief

Mumbai-based Greatship is poised to deploy Marathon LeTourneau-built jack-up Greatdrill Chaaru to the Mumbai Offshore next month (May) to begin her three-year contract for ONGC at an Effective Day Rate (EDR) of $44,955.59.

"ONGC released the rig (from her earlier ONGC contract) on March 5," confirms a company source. "Our new contract will begin before or by May."

Greatship adds routine maintenance work on the 2015-built independent leg cantilever rig, currently moored off Mumbai, will end in mid-April. Greatdrill Chaaru completed her last well (N_16#12) for ONGC at the Mumbai High under a five-year contract that began in April 2015 after she reached Indian waters on March 26 (2015).

Three additional Greatship rigs are already operating in Indian waters for ONGC. Jack-ups Greatdrill Chitra and Greatdrill Chaaya are in the Mumbai Offshore while Greatdrill Chetna reached the Kutch offshore on March 26 (2020).

An ONGC source adds ONGC wanted to drill 35 exploration and 72 development wells this fiscal (2019-20) and by December 31 (2019) had drilled 23 exploration and 35 development wells. ONGC presently operates 34 offshore rigs: seven company-owned and 27 on hire.

Five are on the east coast and 29 on the west coast.
