Reliance talks on gas pipeline to Jamnagar

Vol 10, PW 4 (15 Jun 06) News in Brief

Reliance is talking to Gujarat State Petronet to lay a gas pipeline from Bharuch to Jamnagar, site of its massive refinery and petrochemicals complex.

No letters have changed hands but we hear Gujarat Petronet is keen to lay the pipeline and has the support of chief minister Narendra Modi. But Reliance doesnt trust Gujarat Petronet to lay the pipeline by its 2008 deadline to bring KG gas to NTPCs power plants at Kawas and Gandhar and is ready to lay it on its own.

Reliance obtained RoUs for the Kakinada to Jamnagar pipeline a year ago and has only two years before it ends. Reliance plans a 48-inch pipeline from Kakinada to Bharuch from where Gujarat Petronet will lay a 30-inch stretch to Jamnagar.

Chinese pipes for the Kakinada to Bharuch pipeline have begun arriving and physical work will begin soon. Last month, Reliance boss PMS Prasad met GSPC boss DJ Pandian to talk through the project.
