GAIL proposes آ‘City Gas Associationآ’ of Indiaآ’

Vol 8, PW 4 (19 May 04) News in Brief

GAIL is proposing the creation of a City Gas Association of India to further spearhead its city gas distribution business.

GAIL tells PETROWATCH this is the right time to set up an organisation that assumes the dual role of industry association and think tank on CGD in India. All the oil companies are getting into city gas distribution and CNG, reveals a senior GAIL source.

It would be useful to bring everyone together in a single body. GAIL wants to head the industry body by virtue of its expertise, leadership and experience in the city gas distribution sector.

Except for Gujarat, Delhi and Mumbai there is no other local gas distribution network in India, he said. GAIL is planning 22 city gas distribution projects in India, he adds.

An industry body is a must. GAIL has asked for comments on the idea from Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum.
