Oil India spuds KMC-16 at Kumchai

Vol 22, PW 20 (25 Jul 19) News in Brief

Despite a staff shortage, Oil India is keeping up the momentum as it tries to further increase production from its promising Kumchai field at the Ningru PML in remote Arunachal Pradesh.

On July 3, Oil India spud development well KMC-16 at location KUAS using 2000-hp capacity Rig-3 from Delhi-based Quippo Oil & Gas. By July 20, Quippo had drilled KMC-16 to 240 metres TD with no problems reported but still a long way short of 4500 metres planned TD.

Work to prepare three further development well locations at KUAT, KUAY and KUAZ is also underway. "Approach road preparations are in progress," reports an Oil India source.

"There's only one (Quippo) rig on location and as of now there are no plans to bring in a second rig." Hopes are high that Oil India management will address the Kumchai staff shortage by re-deploying personnel from DIGBOI when the field passes to a private sector PEC services contractor.

Oil India celebrated success at the Kumchai field on June 18 when well KMC-15, spud on October 12, 2018, began flowing 200 b/d, raising total field production to more than 640 b/d.
