Vol 21, PW 22 (09 Aug 18) News in Brief

Here's another sign the long-delayed proposed Barmer refinery project in Rajasthan is more than just hot air.

By end-August, promoter Hindustan Petroleum and consultant Engineers India are expected to select technology providers for the proposed 9m t/y 'greenfield' facility processes that will include a cracker, vacuum gas oil hydrotreater, delayed coker, hydro-treater, fluidised catalytic cracker, ethylene cracker, diesel hydro-treater, residue hydrocracker and the sulphur recovery, hydrogen generation and butene units. In the race are Axens, Haldor Topsoe, Shell, Chevron Lummus Global, TechnipFMC, Linde, LyondellBasell, UOP, thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions, PROSERNAT and others.

"By end-September contracts should be awarded after (HPCL) board approval," we hear. Whoever wins will be mandated to prepare the basic design and engineering package from which Engineers India will prepare a FEED document.

HPCL wants to issue EPC tenders by June 2019 for this estimated Rs 43,129cr project and award contracts by September 2019.
